Bad Astronomy Newsletter #8

Contents:

  1. Book still doing well
  2. TV appearance March 17
  3. Radio Interview on March 16
  4. Astronomy Tidbit: A new comet!
  5. Subscribe/Unsubscribe info

1) Book still doing well The book "Bad Astronomy" is still selling briskly on Amazon, thanks to you folks who have bought it through my website. I stopped by a local Barnes and Noble and saw it there in the astronomy section, which was really quite amazing. It was wedged in between two books by astronomy authors I happen to know, so that really made it real to me! If you still haven't bought a copy to amaze and annoy your friends, you can order a copy through my website.

2) TV appearance March 17 Just a reminder: I will be on Pax TV on March 17 discussing the Moon Hoax. Check my online calendar for more info or Issue 7 of this newsletter.

3) Radio Interview on March 16

I'll be on a syndicated radio program called "The Environment Show" on Saturday, March 16, talking about standing eggs on the vernal equinox. My segment is taped (I just got off the phone as I write this) and should be about 10-20 minutes into the show. You can find out about the program on their website. You can listen to the show via webcast, or go to the station listings page at to see if they have an affiliate near you. If you are wondering what the heck I am talking about with egg standing, take a look at my egg page.

4) Astronomy Tidbit: A new comet!

A new comet is brightening in the northern hemisphere skies. Ikeya-Zhang is already visible to the naked eye and may get as bright as third magnitude (about as bright as stars in the Little Dipper). Sky and Telescope Magazine has an article online with a finder chart.

5) Subscribe/Unsubscribe Information

If, for some weird reason, you want to unsubscribe to this newsletter, just send email to badastronomy-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com with no body text. Make sure you send it from the address to which the newsletter is sent! Alternatively, you can unsubscribe from the Yahoo!Groups website. Go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/groups-32.html for more info.

Remember, the newsletters will be archived on the website at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/badastronomy so even if you unsubscribe you can still read them there. I suggest staying subscribed so you get them as soon as I send them.

Also, I do not sell your email addresses and neither does Yahoo! Take a gander at the Yahoo!Groups privacy message if it makes you feel better: http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/ Note that the email addresses are visible to me, but I have no prurient use for them. If that makes you nervous for whatever reason, feel free to unsubscribe and simply read the archived newsletters at the website listed above.
