Doctor Who Season 4 bootleg trailer

Posted at 1:30 pm in Cool stuff

More Doctor Who news: folks in the UK who went to the cinema this week got to see a new trailer for the Doctor Who Season 4. If you’re a fan, then this is a pretty cool trailer. Spoilers ho!

Ood! Donna! Martha! And yes, Rose, though that looked to be a clip from an old episode. Still. Mmmmmm, Rose.

But no Sontarans? Oh well, I can wait. Oops! There are Sontarans; I mistook them for Jidoon. :-)

What’s funny is how this stuff is released. A film trailer is a great idea, but these folks really need to drop these on teh intertoobs in high quality. The Trek trailer was on YouTube for like two days before it hit the official site. That’s just silly. Doctor Who has an international audience, so they should really be letting us see what we want! Old media still just doesn’t get it.

Tip o’ the sonic screwdriver to BABloggee Stuart Lowe.

From what I’ve heard the shot of Rose is new, as Billie Piper was filming around November/December time, so there wasn’t time to put it in the Xmas trailer, but they got it in this one.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the deal behind the adverts (they’re only in a couple of cinema chains, at the very start of the programme, not with other ads or trailers) is that they’ll be cinema-only for a certain period. It was the same with the Voyage Of The Damned cinema ad - there was a gap between that appearing in cinemas and then appearing on TV and the BBC’s YouTube channel.

    A whole series of Catherine Tate… :o(

No Sontarans? Try right at :50 seconds in. Y’know Phil.. for a scientist you’re not terribly observant. :)

Perhaps the “bootleg videos available on the net” before official videos are available on the websites are part of marketing? How much play do those bootleg videos get, and how much hype do they generate for the “official” site? How many people jump at “watch the bootleg video” as compared to how many would respond to “go see the new [official] trailer”?

I was going to say something snarky about Phil not seeing the Sontarans, but Jeff G. handled that perfectly well.

Fourth season? I don’t see William Hartnell or Patrick Troughton in there anywhere. This is clearly a trailer for the thirtieth season.

    SONTARANS! YAY! *dances*

Considering how annoying Catherine Tate is, she seems to have been toned down a little…at least in this trailer.

Maybe even the showrunners know that a whole season of her in OTT-mode would be too much.

No obvious hints as the series big-bad though…

Umm, Phil… that’s the Judoon, not Jidoon.
Billie Piper is indeed returning. BTW, Martha was in tonight’s episode of Torchwood in the UK (well, one of them; it was a special double bill).
    Things are looking up.

It’s okay, Phil. I totally understand why you mistook the Sontarans for Judoon. When the Judoon appeared last series, I mistook them for Sontarans until they took off their helmets, and had a OMGWTFRhinoceros?! moment.

Remember, the way to take out a Sontaran is to hit them in the probic vent at the back of the neck.

The BBC is quite restrictive with internet access for foreign IP addresses, while offering a number of online features for the UK (such as viewing programmes from last week on demand). They make this distinction because in the UK we pay a license fee of about £130 per year to watch TV and listen to radio legally. If everything was online for all countries the popular support for the license fee, which is pretty low already, would evaporate. In turn, that would mean no more BBC, no more Doctor Who, etc.

    What? No Daleks or Cybermen?

    Hmm..

If you haven’t noticed yet, the latest update to the Wikipedia entry about Series 4 also suggests that Elisabeth Sladen is returning as Sarah Jane… =) (although I haven’t seen that officially confirmed yet).

I’ve been a fan since childhood (right on the Jon Pertwee / Tom Baker regeneration), and I have to admit that I was concerned about Catherine Tate too. Liked her for the most part in Big Train Series 2 (but it was an ensemble sketch show format), for the most part, but really not a fan of her sketch show, or her appearance in The Runaway Bride. But this trailer gives me hope… or it just the return of the ominous music and clever editing that I’m reacting to? Time to sit down and watch all of Series 3 again… especially as I’m now officially eager for April.

Does Orac know about all of this yet?

Catherine Tate? Just so long as she doesn’t try to be funny…
