Politics, science, and … toons?

"I’m not bad… I’m just drawn that way."
Continuing on the theme of the political humpery of science, I’m pleased to forward a message from the Union of Concerned Scientists:
Three top cartoonists have joined with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) to kick off the organization’s second annual “Science Idol” scientific integrity cartoon contest to draw humorous attention to a very serious issue: political interference in science.
Can you draw? Are you sick of the way the White House has bastardized reality? Then pick up a pen, put on your tin foil hat, draw a cartoon, and submit it to Science Idol.
If I could draw, I’d be all over this. Sadly, I’m only gifted with this incredible writing talent.

The link is bad. With no “http://”, it’s trying to find the UCS website inside the BA blog.
John, click on zee picture and things happen…

Don’t forget your other gift, overwhelming modesty!
I can’t draw either, but if I could I’d be trying to think of a good picture to go with the caption “… actually the tree of life is more like a Bush”.
Rats! I can draw cartoons, I’ve even been published, but this is only open to US citizens. Unfair!

Nobody’s perfect! And a BA-blog only filled with cartoons wouldn’t be as interesting and informative as it is now.
I’m reading your book right now. And I am laughing more or less all the time. You did it very well, indeed!
I’ve always been a big fan of Non Sequitur, and yesterday was the best comic I’ve ever seen him create. It can be found at http://images.ucomics.com/comics/nq/2007/nq070328.gif.
If you can’t draw, just make ASCII art!

I kind of like this one from XKCD:

Actually, Stuart, I’d say BA’s other major talent involves movies and TV trivia, hence the quote from Jessica Rabbit above.
If you can’t draw, use tools such as the cartoon playground at Funny Times.

Cartoons can be dangerous. Just remember that most of the Anti-Science Fundies started out with a copy of “The Picture Bible.”
I always liked Abe Lincolns teaching story. It goes like this:
Assume you have a jackass with four legs and a tail and you decide to call the tail a leg. Now, how many legs does the jackass have?
Answer: Four!
Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it one,,,
See, we’ve been trying to teach people to see for a very long time.
