I am now in Seattle, after an uneventful flight. Not much has happened yet; I attended a meeting on how to write proposals, and then met up with some friends and went to the reception. My old friend CCP has the scoop on that, including a goofy image of Pamela from AstronomyCast and me together.
I took a peek at some of the pre-written press releases, and some of them look pretty cool. There will also be lots of posters and talks, and I’ll be blogging about them as I can. I know there will be lots of other blogs being written here, too, so I’ll link to them as I find ‘em.

It may be a goofy picture of you and Pamela, but at least on the latest Slacker Astronomy video we all know what size underwear you have, and what you think is the center of the Universe.

I’m in Seattle, too. I hope to do some conference blogging as well.

The speech balloon would be Phil saying.. “Pamela, Gee, your hair smells terrific!!”

Now we know why astronomers aren’t paid much. They have too much fun at their jobs so it ain’t drudgery they have to be bribed to do. Isn’t it cool, to be able to make a living(barely) doing what you love?
I remember(from books, not personally) back in the 1930s, scientists were the last person you’d want to have your daughter marry. Never home, staying up ’til all hours, trying to get the monster up and running. So obsessive in their jobs and paid so little. Which is why, I guess, we have so few thinkers in the world and so many lawyers and politicians,,,
Now, if only astronomers could patent their discoveries and make fortunes doing so, we’d be encouraging our little girls to make more astronomers. Then the world could get smarter, faster,,,
